Issue with selecting panels

There is a small issue with selecting panels or rather assign certain objects to colour coded panesl by pressing 1,2,3 or 4 and right click. When I am working on filling in values in 1D view of images for example and want to select another object for a panel, i end up entering 333333333333333333333 or something to that extent. :) I know that it can be avoided by selecting some random box where no values can be entered, but that can be a bit awquard. Activating a different panel, which i find easy enough to do, does not help since the old box is still active. Is there any way to ease this behaviour a bit?

  try "right click" in empty area. worked for me when i was adding new control point from image to image.

  That works in many cases for me, but not once I have actually altered a value - then it jumps back into the box and inputs the 33333333333333333333...

  Running an alignment at the moment, but from memory pressing Enter exits the field
