    Hi.

    I think I can only import obj-files into RC.
    Not correct?

    Thanks ...

    If every "problem" couid disappear like this ...
    :D :lol:

    Too much input in the last days with this new 3d-thing for me ...information overload.

    Thanks for the clarification. Will check if the fbx-model is in normal orientation if
    re-imported as fbx.

    THANKS.

    I have exported a fbx-file from zbrush and tried to re-import it into RC...
    but it crashes.

    There are several export settings from which I can choose.
    So I presume that I have chosen the wrong ones for RC.
    FBX 2014?
    BIN or ASCII ?
    TRIANGULAR or QUAD POLYGONS ?
    AXIS SYSTEM ? (directx, Lightwave, MayaYUp,MayaZUp,3ds max,Toolbag,Unity,MotionB,OpenGl/
    UpVector= / FrontVector= /CoordSytem=)
    EMBED MAPS ?
    SMOOTH or HARD NORMALS ?
    FORMAT for MAPS (png,bmp,tif,jpg)?

    What do you think would work best for importing fbx into RC?

    best wishes...

    Now I have found a way to import fbx without crashing, but ...

    after importing the model stands vertical to the ground plane.
    Any suggestions for solving this issue ?

    Thanks for your help ...

    I have tested now all axis-systems that are available for export.
    Everytime the re-imported model has the same wrong orientation.

    I am clueless now.
    Any help is really welcome...

    Hi Christian
    wrong orientation in RC or in Zbrush (or another external app ) ?

    please describe your workflow ( shortly ) to check if it is not just something set incorrectly.
    make say a 10k tris model and export it from RC, import it in ZB and then back in RC as a fast turnaround and verify it it is not a Zbrush issue or something like that...

    Hello Wishgranter.

    I did exactly like you have already described...
    * exporting a 10k model as fbx
    * importing into zbrush
    * doing nothing in zbrush
    * exporting with different settings from zbrush as fbx
    * re-importing to rc
    * everytime the model has got a wrong orientation
    it is turned around 90degrees around the middle pivot point of the ground plane
    if you look from the side ground plane and model are for!ming a cross

    I hope that helps to find a solution...

    Hi Christian
    try to keep the RCINFO file (rename it to Zbrush export) next to the FBX. FBX transfer additional information on rotation etc so if you export it as an OBJ, you will lose the transformation info. OBJ is not a way to be used for Zbrush work ??

    Hello Wishgranter.

    I've tried to export the fbx from zbrush directly with the same name as from the info-file, which was in the same folder.
    But after importing into RC it shows the same wrong orientation to the groundplane as described before.
    See attached screenshot.

    No...obj is right now is not a alternative because it is MUCH bigher than the
    fbx-files and that is no help for my workflow on my not so fast pc.

    If this does not work with RC right now ...maybe I could turn the model in RC in the right direction by typing in some numbers somewhere in the software or correcting something in the info-file?

    So ...if you export a modell as a fbx ...import it in zbrush ...export it as a fbx ....and re-import it in RC ...
    are you on your system getting the right orientation for the modell right away?

    Until now I could not finish any model with RC because of this. A cleanup-software is indispensable for my workflow.
    So I have to export und re-import.
    I have to finish at least one in the next days beacause I want to push the idea of making an aerial-3d-model to a client.
    So I do really need your help.

    I think sometimes we are a little bit lost in translation and it is very difficult to solve this problem with days between
    question and answer. So if there is any way we could come to a solution a little bit quicker ...please let me know.

    It could be an error on my side ...but by now it seems to be a bug in the software.
    I did everything exactly like you've said. But the error is still there.

    Thanks for your patience.
    best regards...

    Today I did some more testing with a 100k model.
    This could be imported with the correct orientation.

    I have used exactly the same settings while exporting fbx from rc and zbrush.
    The only difference was... 100k and 10m.
    100k= correct orientation
    10m = wrong orientation.

    Does this make any sense and help to find a solution ?

    Hello.

    Is someone from the CR-Team looking into this subject?

    I need some kind of answer?
    Is this something which needs to be adressed in a software-update?
    Is there a workaround meanwhile?
    Is this a error on my side?
    What else can I do to solve this?

    A simple "We are looking into this. Please stay tuned. We will come back to you as soon as possible"
    or something along those lines would have been helpful in the beginning.

    Right now I don't know if I have to leave RC behind and look for another software or if we can find a solution for this little problem?

    So please let me know ...

    best regards...

    Hi Christian
    Please pack the OBJ/FBX files ( ZBRUSH too ! ) and send them to my email so that I can try to reproduce this issue here... I think it has something to do with the ZBrush settings...

    Hi Christian
    All I can say for now is that it looks like a Zbrush FBX export BUG. They have not set properly orientation, we need to dig into this a bit more

    In the meantime, try to play with these settings, the default is probably Y up, here is a screenshot with Z up

    ZB_Maya_Z_up.png

    but try a few others like here

    Thanks for your reply.

    I checked all possible zbrush-export-settings.
    All are ending in the same imported model with wrong orientation.

    I can recheck it.
    But I doubt that it will change something.

    I hope you will find a way to fix this.

    best regards...

    Hi.

    I checked the newest release.
    But it does not fix the fbx-import-issue.

    Any news on that?

    3d exporter, x y z in mm update size ratios , visible on, TAB (MOVE to ORIGIN ) OFF !!, TAB (orgiginal size) on and export bij OBJ, and import in RC model and texture. En klaar is kees ;)

    When I don't define a custom ground plane, I can export and import obj's just fine. It's only when I rotate the model using define ground plane and then export I get alignment issues with import and export between programs. And no, I'm not going to fiddle with renaming the file names of the export info in order to get it working properly...that seems like a band-aid and not a real solution.

    It would be nice to have an option to actually rotate the model/camera alignments as a whole separate from the ground plane and have that locked. Currently it looks like the local axis of the model and camera alignment is locked on image alignment with no way to force it to a custom rotation after the fact.

    Great power and speed in the program, but there are some basic functionality problems that shouldn't exist that slow down the production pipeline efficiency.

    Keep up the updates and good work!
