How to align OBJ model and fotos
Answered
Hello,
I have a model (.obj) from blender that I want to texture with RC.
The mesh (with UV and light topo) comes originally from a laser scan, but I just have it as .ply, so I can not import it in RC.
I have problems to align the OBJ mesh and the fotos. Blende OBJ Exporter does not produce extra info file.
Any ideas how to solve the problem?

Hi Clemens Rudolph
Isn’t it possible to import the original laser data in RC, set a proper CP workflow and get it done ?
If not, then you need to reconstruct the model from images in RC ( set proper scale ) and register the laser scans with the RC results in an external application, then import it as an OBJ in RC and generate the texture... -
Hey Wishgranter,
I get the scandata pointcloud as .ply. That´s the output format I of scanner. I tried to change to E57 with CloudCompare but cloud not import in RC.
If not then you need reconstruct model from images in RC ( set proper scale ) and register in external application the LS data to the RC results, then import as OBJ the LS data in RC and generate texture...
What do you mean with "set propper scale"? How can change scale?
Do you plan to make a .ply importer?
Do you plan to scale objects in RC?
Thank you for your help

RealityCapture already supports scaling models - uniformly in all directions at the same time. In order to set size of a model, you need to define a distance between 2 control points and Update it or realign the model by clicking on Align Images (F6). To do so, it is recommended to define at least 2 control points in 2-5 images. The Update option changes solely the coordinate system of the currently selected component or model, whereas the Align Images (F6) button creates a new component.
