Question regarding texturing with exchanged JPG [SOLVED]
Answered
Hi, ive created a model, unwrapped it and textured, all ok.
I then wanted to point RC to a new folder with JPG to use for texturing,
this JPG are edited with photoshop.
My problem is, texturing with the new JPG's end in a totaly wrong textured model, why that?
The JPG's have the same name and same account of JPG in the new folder.

EDIT: The Problem is solved, the two folders with the same JPG's, one folder had different exif data inside the JPG's,
different rotation. I changed all JPG's to have the same exif information, now texturing works again!

Ok here is the wrong textured result screenshot.
Strange thing is, i loaded the good textured one RC file after that, but it showed in the window the wrong textured.
I started re-texturing again now so you can see how it actually should look...-

Hi Götz,
i still wonder why the texturing went so wrong, i just renamed the new JPG folder to the one used by RC.
The JPG are same rotation, i edit just the lightning, so does that means there is no editing possible after
construction is done? The only way to change the texture would be after exporting the model with the textures? -
Hi Nedo,
I often moved images to a new folder, so in theory it must be possible.
My best guess is the rotation.
That would explain the fact that in the messed up texture the boards are horizontal instead of vertical.
The thing is that Photoshop automatically rotates the images according to the sensors in your camera.
So if you used them right out of the camera for the initial model, they are all stored horizontal.
After Photoshop editing, the ones that you shot in portrait will be saved vertival.
Another possibility you can try is to hit Align and watch in the console - if Feature Detection rushes through, it should be all right. If not, then there is a difference between the old and the new images.
As a workaround, if the model is not too big and it wasn't too much manual work, you could just use the adjusted images for the whole process. If you only adjusted the lighting a bit, it shouldn't matter too much (if at all). -
Hi Nedo,
I would second what Götz told about the rotation. Photoshop tends to interpret EXIF data differently and might introduce a Camera Orientation value, that is incorrect (at lest different from that before editing). You could check this with exiftool (command line program that allows drag and drop of images and creates a text file with exif data)
Is there a specific reason, why you color-correct the source images rather than the exported texture?
Exporting a model with texture, then editing its texture and finally re-importing the model with its updated texture doesn't take too long. You could then export to Sketchfab if you like from RC.

Hi Nedo,
I did just a quick test with editing a source JPG in Photoshop and then comparing the exif data of both files:
Actually it adds a parameter "Orientation: Horizontal (normal)" to my edited JPG when saving, even though the photo has definitely a portrait orientation. (see attached screenshot)
You could now use the exiftool on all the editied images and remove this stupid parameter.
@Götz Exiftool shows all sorts of metadata not only EXIF data. Even IPTC, XMP or manufacturer data is listed.
If you or Nedo are interested I would post the command to create the text file with metadata.

Hi Gerrit i just found out, one JPG was wrong, but the re-texturing still didnt worked, so yes i would like to test your exif script, so best thing is to remove the exif data on all images?
Why i do this all? I prepare the photos with photoshop (ie. removing specular & shadows) for RC,
but i like to use the original JPG for texturing.
Edit: just found out the exif data is different, the edited one shows Horizontal(normal)
The original shows Rotate 270 CW
