have you done your laserscan alignment in something else before importing it into rc?

I think it best to align laser scans first. then import as exact, and then align photo to the laserscan.

but there could be all kinds of issues with e57 depending on how you export them.

They are aligned before, I had heard that was an issue. Is there a better way to import the sans than in E57? I had thought that was the advised approach.

    Hi Gavin,

I've used PTX with no problems.

Could you maybe upload some screenshots?

    Hello guys,

I use this topic to ask my questions because I would like to combine LiDAR scans and photogrammetry.
In fact I already succeeded this test but is it possible to combine LiDAR scans without color infos?
I'm using a Faro LiDAR and I would like to disable the Scan Color Step to get my scans faster and align an ordered point cloud with photos.

I know RC probably needs color infos from the scans to combine it with the photos but is there another way ?

I tried with e57, ptx, I always have seperate components (1 for the scans and the others for the photos).

    Thank you very much!

    Hi BATTISTELLI Jerome,

that's a clear yes and no! You can try using intensity on RGB but if it works or not depends on the object texture. I tried it once just out of curiosity and it worked, but I did not pursue it further so I'm not sureif the quality would have been ok. Usually it is said that it does not work...

    Thank you Götz Echtenacher,

You mean to set Features on "intensity" during the laser scan import?

I tried but it doesn't work. I have 20 scans and 800 photos (30 square meters living room).

    Thanks again for the answer!

To be honest, I don't remember!

I thought my surveyor saved the intensity as RGB in the PTX files...

    Ok!

I will try to colorize my Raw Scans in the Faro's software and import my ptx file in RC after. I'll keep you up to date if it works...

    Thanks!

    Hello guys,

Finaly I used a Faro tool in Faro's Scene to project photos on my scans (photomerge to enlarge the target area + control points from photos to "infrared overview"). Then I colorized approximatively each scan (you don't have to colorize the entire "infrared overview", 50% or 60% is enough). Then I exported the PTX and imported it with the registration option.

RC merged my "handmade colored scans" with my photos (1 component) then I only used the LiDAR for geometry and photos for texturing. It was really useful because the time to capture the set was not enough to use the LiDAR's color option...

    Hope this post is helpful!
