ppi projects not portable?
hi,
trying to understand why i canti open ppi projects on different machines ? i dont see the advantage to you since i pay per input... not per machine ?
i am using ppi on my laptop in the field to capture and preview and then move to a workstation at the office since its much faster to work on.
when i pre-process projects in the field and then try to open them on my workstation at the office i get a error stating
cannot load the project that was locked to another machine
so then i have to import the images on my office machine and process again there
i thought i pay per input not per machine - so there is really no advantage to you to also lock projects to the machine and just a big waste of time for me ?
also now my projects are not portable even after i have licenced my inputs ? so what happens if i get a new workstation or computer and need to move my projects over ? none of them will work ?
please let me know!
Karsten

The images are re-usable, so basically you go in the field do a draft alignment to see the weak and the strong spots and then create a whole new project in house where the alignment will of course take much longer with the stronger settings. One of the reasons for the lock is our security but it is planned to be removed in the future. I cannot guarantee when exactly but the will to remove the lock is there.

ok great my main concern is loosing my projects if i move to a different machine so as long as i can address this in the future it would be great
for now the ability to see drafts in the field is very helpful without having to pay for a licence just to work remotely
we are also trying out the ppi workflow along with the monthly licence workflow to see how they help each other

well i am really unable to migrate a ppi project to another machine for processing and licencing as ppi :(
on my field machine i have added control points to align everything and ensure my photos are adequate
but when trying to export my control points along with the images to the larger system for at work for processing i have to also licence my inputs just to get the control points out...
if i could at least export my control points then i could load the images and the control points, do my hires processing and the licence my inputs to get the 3d model out...
will this restriction be removed as well or is it here to stay... not seeing the advantages to ppi in a multi workstation workflow
also trying to process large scenes at hi-res takes days on a field laptop and i have not been able to complete the process once due to multiple crashes all the time and the tress on the hardware due to low ram / cpu issues

I don't have any specific information about the export of Control Points, but I doubt this would become possible.
Regarding the on field processing, we cannot make this easy for "any" laptop but I am quite sure that if you don't go for a detailed calculation but more of a preview this can be done quite fast even on a lower configuration. If you wish to work between projects and on multiple machines, then I suggest you to consider getting a PGM license, it would be more viable for such workflow. -
yes i get it - if i can export control points then i can defeat the entire PPI ssytem so no worries there !!
so using in the field for preview works fine and for small jobs as well that dont need big hardware
but the ability to run PPI jobs on other machines would be great (maybe ofter licenceing inputs ?) so if i loose the machine they were created on i dont loose the entier project !
thanks!!!
