Cracked it, for my reference and yours.

Though I have ended up with a "Project".fbm folder full of the original image files.  Not sure if this is needed or was it created by 3DS max.

I can barely view a corner of this project in RC in full model and my mouse wheel has turned into a mill stone but in Recap Photo the whole job is feather light at 9GB.

Reading other threads I wasn't sure if I could export the dense cloud from RC in colour so next step is some mesh editing then export a PTS file for import into Recap and then on to Revit so I can prep architectural projections.

The most measured farmhouse and cow shed in the UK.

Mesh Mixer crashed on OBJ import, no matter.

RC XYZ export loaded into Recap in colour.  Recap Photo is still looking for defects, I'd advise not using that tool on largish projects.

So onto Revit, the point cloud has loaded and best of all its in the right local coordinate system.  Joy!!

I can now prepare these ortho images with Pointsense.  In my opinion the photogrammetry route produces far better elevations than colourised scan data using the scanners camera system.  I put that down to a better camera and less noise.

The ultimate game changer would be to get the 3D mesh model into Revit with textures.  I did try this for two days the other week but had to admit defeat.

PS from Revit 2018 onward you can import a coordination model from Navisworks which will import the FBX but unfortunately it doesn't support textures so you end up with a grey mass model.
