focal length value in EXIF

Hello all,

 

Question regarding focal length - I've noticed that the focal length RC pulls from EXIF is the 35mm equivalent. Because true focal lengths are the proper input for the calculation of capture strategy (to keep resolution consistent for each imageset that will yield a component), should RC use the true focal length input rather then 35mm equiv?

If so, would it make sense to:

a) direct RC to the true focal length EXIF tag?
b) where this is not available, write the true focal length to the focallength tag in EXIF, so RC reads this?

  Hi DDI,

   

  RC works with the 35mm equivalent. Possibly it converts this to the true focal length before processing, I'm not sure.

  If you select an image you can see in its selection window under Prior calibration what the value is for "Focal Length (35mm)"

  If you hover your mouse over this text it says "Camera length in the 35mm format".
