Reimport simplified 3d model of a build and add textures
Hi Everybody
Does anybody know, how close the new mesh has to be to the original, before it is possible to reimport it to Reality Capture and add the texture to this object?
I watched a couple of tutorials about the RC -> Z-Brush -> RC workflow and it seems to work flawless. But since I don't have access to Z-Brush, I wanted to try doing it a bit different.
I'm working on a 3d town model and the goal is to make a digital copy of some of the cities landmarks.
The below images are just a proof of concept, made on a building where we had easy access to fly with a drone. To check the output quality and so on. But my idea was to use the 3d model to redo a simple blockmodel in 3ds max, then reimport it into RC and get the textures from the images.
In this way I could correct the bad geometry in the areas where it doesn't have straight edges. So basically a highpoly model 3mil into something like 25 polys.
My problem is when I try to import the new model back into RC, then it just stalls. I spends 10 minutes waiting and the Import Model counter just keeps going.
I simplified the RC model into something with 3 mil. poly
Export to FBX
Open the FBX file in 3ds max and draw a simple box-poly on top
Copy the mesh name onto the new model
Export/Overwrite the new model into to previous FBX filename
Import into RC (this is where it stalls)
